Abstract

The Republic of Ecuador is situated in the north-west of South America, with about one-fifth of its area lying north of the equator. It is bounded on the north by Colombia and by a narrow extension of Peru, on the south by Peru, on the east by Colombia and Peru and on the west by the Pacific Ocean and Peru. The frontier with Peru has long been a source of intermittent dispute between the two countries. The latest delimitation of it was in a treaty of 29 Jan. 1942, when, after being invaded by Peru, Ecuador ceded the latter over half her Amazonian territories. See map in The Statesman’s Yeak-Book, 1942.
