Haakon VII, born 3 Aug., 1872; second son of Frederik VIII, King of Denmark, elected King of Norway by the Storting, 18 Nov., 1905; accepted the crown, 18 Nov., 1905; landed in Norway, 25 Nov., 1905; married, 22 July, 1896, to Princess Maud, born 26 Nov., 1869 (died 20 Nov., 1938), the third daughter of the late Edward VII, King of Great Britain and Ireland.

STATISTICAL INFORMATION.—The Central Norwegian Bureau of Statistics, Statistisk Sentralbyrâ (Dronningensgate 16, Oslo), was founded in 1876 as an independent state institution: Director:—Petter Jakob Bjerve.
