Abstract

The Saarland borders in the east and north on the German Federal Republic, in the west and south on Luxemburg and France. It has an area of 2,567 sq. km. and (1951) a population of 956,570 (361 to the sq. km.). Its capital is Saarbrücken (112,000 inhabitants). The official language is German.
