Abstract
Syria and Lebanon were recognised as independent States to be placed under a Mandatory Power. By decision of the Supreme Council of the Allied Powers at San Remo (April 25, 1920), France was assigned the Mandate for Syria, which was confirmed by the League of Nations on July 24, 1922 (Declaration of London).
