Abstract
The Declaration of Independence of the thirteen States of which the American Union then consisted was adopted by Congress July 4, 1776. On November 30, 1782, Great Britain acknowledged the independence of the United States, and on September 3, 1783, the treaty of peace was concluded.

The State Department issues the following publications: The Executive Agreement Series; Statutes at large; Territorial Papers of the United States; Treaties and other international acts ot the United States; Treaty series.
The official publications of the United States are issued by the Government Departments and Bureaus concerned and sold by the Superintendent of Documents, who publishes a monthly catalogue. Important publications are those of: the State Department, the Department of Agriculture, the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, the Treasury, the Department of the Interior, the Mint, the Federal Reserve Board, the Comptroller of the Currency, the Interstate Commerce Commission, the Labour Statistics Bureau, the Navy Department, the War Department, the Office of Education, and the Library of Congress.
