Abstract
By a notification of the President of the Council of Ministers dated June 24, 1939, the words ‘Siam’ and ‘Siamese’ were officially changed to ‘Thailand* and ‘Thai* respectively. This action brought official nomenclature into conformity with popular usage as the inhabitants of the country, who have always been known as ‘Thai’ or ‘The Free People,’ preferred to call their country * Muang Thai ‘ rather than ‘ Say am ‘ or Siam.
