Abstract
Effect of impurities in microcrystalline selenium. Indications of a direct influence by iodine. Decrease in the conductivity of pure selenium is caused by numerous metals if present in concentrations which are not sufficiently high to form compounds.— Indications that there is no halogen-effect in single-crystals grown from the vapor phase; no effect due to FeCl3 either. However, influence of Br and J upon the thermal-EMF (Borelius).—Discussion of the effects of impurities in liquid selenium.—Conductivity type is always hole conduction if separate phases are avoided. The problem of intrinsic or extrinsic impurity centers.—Special crystallization patterns in selenium which has crystallized from a liquid or a glas-like phase: Filamentary patterns and spheroliteformation. Crystallization-catalizers.—Report about the anthor's heat-treatment experiments with simultancous thermal-EMF measurements: Small changes in carrier density, large mobility changes.—Anomalous valucs for resistivity and its change with temperature in extremely purified selenium (Eckart).
