Abstract

Measurements of the spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) have been actively pursued for more than twenty years in hopes of finding detailed information about the early universe. A review will be given of the technical problems associated with these background measurements in each frequency range where they have been attempted. The experimental approaches which have been used to overcome these problems will be analyzed and the most recent measurements summarized.
