Cosmology In The Infrared
Part of the Lecture Notes in Physics book series (LNP, volume 297)

Abstract

Cosmological background radiation may already have been detected in both the near-IR and far-IR. Even if these detections are not confirmed, space experiments should soon present the possibility of detecting IR backgrounds at a level where their existence is inevitable as a result of astrophysical activity in the pregalactic or protogalactic era. These backgrounds will generally appear in the near-IR unless they have been absorbed by galactic or intergalactic dust, in which case they should have been reprocessed into the far-IR.
