Abstract

Colloid and interfacial chemistry has been of outstanding importance for the development of products and processes for a long time. As there is a close interaction between basic research and applied industrial research in colloid and interface science, the demands which influence the innovation process in companies also affect the fundamental research. A summary of new ideas and strategies is given regarding the innovation process using Henkel KGaA as an example. New developments in the fields of detergents and cleansers, cosmetics, surface technologies, and adhesives show the importance of colloid and interface science as well as the necessity of efficient project control within the context of the innovation process.
