Investigation of time-dependent phenomena in polymers by FOURIER-TRANSFORM-INFRARED spectroscopy

Abstract

The experimental possibilities of the FTIR instruments for the studies of crystallization, orientation, and relaxation phenomena in polymers are outlined. The spectral changes occuring during the elongation of a polyethylene film are related to a simultaneously recorded stress-strain diagram. The observation of changes in the conformation during fast heating is demonstrated on poly(tetramethyleneterephthalate).
