Abstract

Rosin (or resin acid) the non-volatile fraction obtained by steam distillation of resin consists of a mixture of some isomeric diterpene acids, the most abundant being the abietic acid. Resin acid and its salts are mostly used as driers in varnishes, paints, etc. because of their surface active behaviour.
