Abstract
Petroleum is a micellar solution of asphaltenes and resins. Crude oils mostly are recovered as water in oil emulsions. Micro-emulsions in the state of phase inversion are very important for an enhanced oil recovery by surfactant flooding.
The results of investigations on the composition and the properties of asphaltenes and petroleum resins are discussed along with the importance of micro-emulsions for petroleum recovery and their formation and properties. The stabilization and the demulsifying of petroleum emulsions are also discussed. The phenomenon of the phase inversion is especially important for petroleum emulsions and micro-emulsions.
