Abstract

Some common aliphatic hydrocarbons were solubilized in aqueous ionic surfactant micelles. The effect of these additives on ηmic, the microviscosity in the pallisade region of the micelle, was studied. It was found, by means of fluorescence quenching, that ηmic is independent of the nature and quantity of the additive. These findings are discussed in terms of diffusion kinetics and the validity of the Einstein-Stokes equation in micelles.
