Abstract

Adsorption of gluconic and citric acids, separately or simultaneously, on maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles in aqueous medium is studied at 25°C. The concentrations of adsorbed acids are determined by HPLC. The stability range is determined by spectrophotometry. It is strongly dependent on pH and on concentration of adsorbed acids. The concentration of adsorbed ligands can be monitored to obtain stable colloidal solutions in the range of pH 6–8, with particles coated simultaneously by the two ligands. In particular, these magnetic liquids are interesting in view of medical applications.
