Computeranalysis of ultracentrifugation interference patterns

A program for the computeranalysis of ultracentrifugation interference patterns is presented. The interference photographs are digitized using a HP Scanjet scanner or must be 1 bitmap .BMP files from other sources.

The program finds three consecutive fringes to calculate a “masterfringe” by averaging. Interruptions in the patterns are detected and substituted by self-finding unbroken fringes for averaging. The resolution in both directions depends on the resolution of the scan and is typically 10 µm (when scanning with 300 dpi). Output is a sequential file containing the calibrated x − y values of the masterfringe.

An application of the method to experimental data is shown.
