Orientational Phenomena in Polymers

Part of the book series: Progress in Colloid & Polymer Science ((PROGCOLLOID,volume 92))

Abstract

Recent research at Leeds University on the production on highly oriented flexible chain polymers is summarised. For melt spun polyethylene fibres, particular attention has been given to tensile strength, creep behaviour and surface treatments to improve adhesion to resins. Recent research on hybrid composites and 100% polyethylene fibres composites is summarised. A die drawing process has been developed for the production of oriented rod, sheet and tube, including biaxially oriented tube. This process is applicable to polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinylchloride, polyester and other polymers.
