Electronic properties of polyaniline
We have investigated the electrical, thermoelectrical, and electrochemical properties of polyaniline (PANI) obtained by electrochemical oxidation of aniline hydrochloride. Van der Pauw’s, two electrode and four-probe conductivity (σ measurements were performed on compressed powder pellets of PANI equilibrated at different pH. PANI shows similar dependence of thermoelectric power (TEP) and log 1 / σ upon pH. At low pH the value of TEP was negative and low. At pH ∼2 TEP changes its sign from negative to positive and increasees with increasing pH. The temperature dependence of conductivity of PANI is closely matched by the expression for variable range hopping. A Hall mobility measurement test for PANI failed. The estimated value of the Hall mobility from this measurement was lower than 0.5 × 10−4m2/V.S. We have constructed a rechargeable Zn/aqueous ZnCl2+NH4Cl/PANI battery showing promising characteristics. Using PANI obtained by anodic oxidation of aniline hydrochloride.
