Small angle neutron scattering studies of polymer latices under sheared conditions
Results are reported of small angle neutron scattering expeirments on a sheared dispersion of a poly(methylmethacrylate) latex in dodecane. By means of a two-dimensional detector the structural arrangement of the particles was determined in directions parallel and perpendicular to the directions of flow. These data suggested that strings of particles were formed in which the particles moved closer together in the direction normal to the flow direction as the shear rate was increased.
