Abstract
In addition to the preferred orientationof the carbon layer normals, carbon fibers can show a preferred orientation of the internal structure of the carbon layers. The degree of orientation is a function of the heat-treatment temperature, the type of orientation depends on the starting material. The origin of the orientation is probably a preferred direction of growth during the first stages of pyrolysis.
