Abstract

The integration of mobile robots within an intelligent infrastructure permus the services required of mobile robots to be more easily and readily realisable. The marketability of mobile robots will only improve if they can be incorporated into the building process. The infrastructure described in this paper provides services aimed at supporting the tasks of mobile robots and allows the robots to interface to existing systems. This will ultimately lead to cheaper less complex robots. Further work is necessary to provide further cues as to the nature of the robot-network communications in real healthcare environments. The effects of varying network traffic and the latencies incurred can only become evident when the robots are situated in a more active environment.
