Abstract
In this paper, the implementation of the equivalent value operators by first order, high bandwidth, low pass filters is considered. An ultimate boundedness proof for the estimation/observation errors when the filters are used sequentially in the equivalent control based disturbance estimator and state observer designs is provided. A rule of thumb for the selection of filter time constants is also given. Initial results on this selection suggest the creation of a multiple time scale behavior since each of the filter time constants is to be as small as possible.
