Abstract

A summary is given on the optical properties of quasi-zero dimensional semiconductor nanocrystallites embedded in a glass matrix. Based on various kinds of measurements we draw conclusions on the electronic structure of those systems, their nonlinear optical response, the effect of electrostatic fields, and the transient carrier processes under short-pulse excitation.
