Abstract
We derive a uniform system of equations for three-dimensional Alfvén waves in the long-wavelength limit, which generalizes the DNLS equation and remains valid when sonic and Alfvén waves have the same phase velocity. Depending on the longitudinal and transverse length scales, this system describes both Alfvén wave filamentation and shock formation for magnetosonic waves.
