Abstract

Modeling the X-ray light curves of the transient supersoft X-ray sources RX J0045.4+4154 and RX J0513.9-6951 by recurrent shell flashes massive white dwarfs (M ∼ 1.33 - 1.38 M) accreting at high rates (≳0.1–3.10−7 M yr−1) are found. These are candidate progenitors of accretion induced collapse (AIC). RX J0019.8+2156 and RX J0527.8-6954 can be considered to be candidate progenitors of SNe Ia.
