Abstract

Applications of natural spline functions to geophysical time series are discussed. These functions may be used to interpolate unavoidable gaps in the observations, and also to smooth data where commonly used methods are not applicable.

Empirically determined features of spline functions with different smoothing factors (weights) are given. An exemple of the use of bicubic splines in processing potential field data is also presented.
