Schluß

Trotz der Fortschritte in der Theorie photochemischer Reaktionen müssen wir feststellen, daß wir noch weit von dem Ziel der Vorhersage entfernt sind, welchen Weg der Energie- oder Stoffumwandlung eine Molekel in einem bestimmten angeregten Zustand einschlagen wird. In nur wenigen Fällen sind bei photochemischen Reaktionen die Zwischenstufen auf dem Wege der Produktbildung bekannt und oft sind alternative Mechanismen zur Diskussion gestellt worden. Das trifft in besonderem Umfang auch für die hier behandelten Carbocyclomerisationen zu. Unabhängig von Einzelheiten mechanistischer Interpretationen bleibt jedoch der präparative Wert dieser Reaktionen.
