Abstract
This paper describes a novel and promising approach to the rapidly growing topic of resource and service trading in the infocom arena. There will be rapid growth in all forms of electronic trading of services, information and resources. This market will be dynamic with the continual evolution of current services and the introduction of new services, and service and resource providers. However, current trading or brokerage techniques do not provide adequate support for an evolving market. The principal contribution of this paper is to establish a concept that explicitly addresses this concern. This is based on the use of active software agent techniques to implement electronic Chambers of Commerce within an architecture for service provisioning. This is in contrast to conventional techniques that are typically implemented using passive brokerage or repository-based techniques.
In this document trading is regarded as synonymous to brokering for simplicity
