Abstract

The longitudinal phonon spectrum of an incommensurate chargedensity-wave (CDW)-distorted linear chain is obtained for all wavevectors, at T=O°K in a mean-field approach. We show how the longitudinal phonon branch connects with the phase and amplitude modes. The qualitative behaviour of the neutron scattering intensities of the various modes is also described.
