Abstract
This article describes the communication within the MeDoc System, which can be divided into two major parts: two-staged query processing and MeDoc fulltext server integration.
Communication for query processing requires two steps: In a first step, user queries are channeled through user agents to brokers which reply with a set of possibly relevant information sources. In a second step, queries are sent to provider agents which encapsulate these sources and which reply with a set of relevant document references.
For the communication with the MeDoc fulltext server additional functions are defined which allow document retrieval with authentication and content based navigation.
Finally, this article describes the MeDoc communication protocol which was designed and implemented to meet these communication requirements.
