Abstract
Recently demonstrated possibilities of recording mass spectrometric data on magnetic tape offer the intriguing prospect of recreating the course of an experiment in its entirety at will. This allows an evaluation of the collected information by studying the relationship of a particular event with any combination of recorded parameters.
Time compression or expansion of the experiment on replay can be easily accomplished by changing tape speeds. Ultimately, unattended data acquisition becomes practical and reliable.
