Abstract
This paper deals with the analysis and the design of a computer controlled large scale plotter. By means of a sufficiently realistic simulation model, shortcomings in the plant mechanics are detected and eliminated. The control design is accomplished in the following three steps: (1) Decomposition of the "original" model to a low order model which is accurate enough and easy to handle, (2) control design based on the low order model, (3) coupling of the control algorithm to the "original" model and examination of its quality by digital simulation.
