Abstract
A blast furnace simulation model developed primarily for on-line application is presented. The model, which describes the steady-state operation of the furnace in one spatial dimension, is adapted to data from the real process by adjusting a set of parameters. A thermodynamic process interface provides the boundary conditions. The model, which is shown to act as an intelligent measurement device providing information about variables that are impossible to measure reliably, can be used to predict the state of the furnace under new operational conditions.
