Abstract

After presenting a brief summary of hypermedia concepts and terminology and a short history of hypermedia, we survey some of the alternative approaches to hypermedia systems. Our goal is to demonstrate the need for a different approach. We then outline a model that could serve as a starting point for the development of future systems that will give the user better control over the interface and the behavior of the system, and allow the designer to tailor and extend it more easily.
