Abstract

Identifications of optical counterparts for radio hot spots in classical double radio sources (Fanaroff-Riley-class II) are reviewed. For those detected studies at infrared and mm wavelengths are combined with radio and optical data to derive the synchrotron continuum and verify the synchrotron origin of the radiation. The majority of optically detected hot spots show a high frequency cut-off indicating that the energy of the radiating relativistic particles is limited to values below some critical upper bound.
