General References
J.W. Cahn, in “Critical Phenomena in Alloys, Magnets and Superconductors”. McGraw-Hill, edited by R.E. Mills, E. Ascher and R.J. Jaffee (1971). This is a nice discussion of classical nucleation theory for fluids. An enourmous literature dealing with attemps to improve the classical droplet model of nucleation exists. Two references of interest in this regard are
K. Binder and D. Stauffer, Adv. in Phys. 25, 343 (1976). This is perhaps the most comprehensive recent summary of a microscopic cluster theory of nucleation. More recent work in this area is summarized in the review article by Gunton, San Miguel and Sahni, Reference [7] in Chapter 1.
A.Bruce and D. Wallance, Phys. Rev. Lett. 4, (1982). This is an interesting renormalization group treatment of the droplet model near one dimension. It is particularly interesting because it is one of the few (if not the only one) “exact“ results in the droplet model literature.
