Abstract
Conventional engineering is performed bottom-up. We seek to arrange the available components or building blocks in the best possible way. This is often a formidable challenge. But nature designs in the obverse manner: by scoring alternative totalities as part of an iterative process of mutation and selection. We can now simulate this process in fast-time and realize top-down evolutionary engineering. We can design better products and services through the use of the Valuated State Space Approach coupled with evolutionary programming.
