Abstract

In this paper the Kropman Intelligent Computer Aided Design system is presented, the development of an Intelligent Computer Aided Design system for integral design, building and application of mechanical HVAC installations. Up to now the use of the computer in the engineering phase is limited to automised drawing, assisted by a number of stand-alone applications. The ICAD-system is able to support the entire engineering process. This can be achieved by providing the system with an amount of knowledge about the design of systems. By means of a hierarchical, functional structuring of the process components, based on a meta model, it is possible to consider the entire systems from different aspcclive views. The base of the ICAD-concept is an object oriented specification language. With this language the model can be described and processed untill it answers the functional specifications. Up to now not all applications have been implemented but some are already been used in the daily working process. From this experience it can be concluded that the ICAD-concept is a very usefull guide-line for further applications of A.I. The intention of Kropman B.V. is to use the system primarily for the optimalisation of their own design and engineering process.
