Abstract

To date, most lexicons for AI systems contain essentially syntactic information, with some minimal semantic information, usually in the form of property flags to help with selection restrictions. Any further semantic information usually has entirely separate representations elsewhere. As a rule, semantic information looks like any other knowledge in the system's knowledge base: that is, it appears as knowledge about the world, not as knowledge about words. But increasingly systems need to know about words to operate effectively. This report deals with a new unified representation for lexical information.
