Abstract

The rigid asymmetric rotor is a system with only one non-conserved degree of freedom, and the effective potential function for this motion has a symmetric double well. The uniform semiclassical eigenvalue condition for such potentials, which takes account of tunneling through the barriers, is applied and shown to yield rotational eigenvalues in good agreement with the correct quantum mechanical values, much better than the “primitive” WKB eigenvalues.
