Abstract
The European Space Agency (ESA) has started a program to establish an ESSDE (European Space Software Development Environment) which contains tools supporting the Agency methodologies and standards. A major activity associated with this program has been an attempt to identify an overall process model for software development at the Agency. Experience to date has shown that no single formalism is adequate to support die modelling activities, but rather a combination of graphical and textual approaches is needed.
