Abstract

This paper describes a computer-aided service development environment (CSDE) which supports the graphical specification of Intelligent Network (IN) services for service designers using the ITU-T's Service Independent Building Block (SIB) methodology. The CSDE presented here consists of a textual/graphical SIB editor, a translator, which translates the SIB description of a service to SDL (ITU-T's Specification and Description Language), an SDL compiler, and a graphical based simulation/debugging environment. The SIB editor and simulation/debugging environment provide the service designer with a sophisticated man-machine interface. To illustrate the functionality and effectiveness of the CSDE, the Universal Personal Telecommunications (UPT) feature Access, Identification and Authentication (AIA) is used as an example.
