Abstract

The implementation of a software interface in Ada according to the standard ‘Protocol for Distributed Interactive Simulation Applications’ is described. The interface covers the levels 5 to 7 of the ISO-OSI reference model by providing services for receiving, transmitting, and managing Protocol Data Units from a simulation application to a network and vice versa as well as additional services defined in the standard. The implementation runs on single- and multi-processor environments. Using Ada as implementation language a high readability of the code as well as a very high traceability to the requirements and the standard was achieved, portability and maintainability proved to be excellent.
