Abstract

The definition of Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) [1] offers a single management concept for wide varieties of network management tasks and types of telecommunication networks. When the concept is applied for the IBC (Integrated Broadband Communications) multi-service networks, the complexity tends to increase to a level where the information to handle in the context of design and modelling of the management systems exceeds a human manageable size. As an aid to this problem the emerging Advanced Information Processing Techniques (AIP) and especially the Object Oriented Methodology (OOM) is showing promising results when used for deriving consistent, maintainable and reusable design and modelling.

This paper describes and discusses experiences gained from developing a TMN Value Added Service Provider (VASP) application by using a specific OOM called Object Modelling Technique (OMT) developed by J. Rumbaugh et al. [2]. For handling the complexity of models, documentation and code during the development process a CASE-tool supporting the methodology has been used which also is reflected throughout the paper.
