Abstract

Representations of space groups induced from local site groups are discussed. The representations are infinite dimensional and correspond physically to energy bands in solids. The induced (band) representations can be reduced in terms of space group irreducible representations. Thus two alternate notations can be used for labeling band representations. The reduction of the band representations (subduction frequencies) for O 5h are explicitly given along with an example of the use of the subduction frequencies in another context, namely for microscopic mode determinations.
