Abstract
As an extension of the study of Smart and Jäggi (1983), bed load transport tests were performed in a steep flume with a clay suspension, in order to simulate the fine material slurry of a hyperconcentrated flow in a torrent. Bed load transport rates were found to increase with increasing fluid density, if the flow around the grains is not laminar. The experiments in which density effects dominated over viscous effects, are analysed together with other bed load transport data, resulting in new transport equations.
