Global Bio-Events

Abstract

Global bio-events are manifold in respect to causes and extent. There can be recognized the following patterns of global bio-events: (1) innovation-events; (2) radiation-events; (3) spreading-events; (4) extinction-events with stepwise or/and contemporaneous, rapid extinctions.

Probable causes for global bio-events are (1) cosmic causes, such as (1a) changes caused by the revolution of the solar's system within the Galaxy and (1b) impact of cosmic bodies; (2) earth-born causes, namely (2a) biological causes (mostly biological innovations) and (2b) abiotic = geological causes. The latter imply, among others, sea-level changes, changes of the physical and chemical composition of the ocean and the atmosphere, changes of climate, changes of oceanographic parameters. Impacts of cosmic bodies may then have a catastrophic effect, if one or several of the affected systems are already near to instable conditions, the latter caused independently by other geologic processes.

Holostratigraphy, that is the combination of all available stratigraphies, such as bio-stratigraphy, event-stratigraphy, chemo-stratigraphy and others, provide us with an extreme high time-resolution.

In next future, the main task in order to answer open questions in respect to causes and processes in connection with global bio-events, will be to elaborate more and more detailed and precise data. Therefore we need interdisciplinary cooperation.
