Abstract

A review is given of single-droplet vaporization models for spray combustion studies. Formulations and numerical methods for the analysis and solution of the two-phase vaporizing and reacting spray problem are discussed. Both one-dimensional and axisymmetric geometries, with and without unsteadiness, are evaluated. Ignition and flame propagation, polydisperse and monodisperse size distributions, resolution on scales smaller than droplet spacing versus coarser resolution, and computer efficiency versus accuracy are considered.
