Treatment of the arab region in global models
The Arab region has been considered in global models in the context of the concerns and interests of organizations sponsoring, and individuals developing, the models. The region enjoyed special attention due to its huge oil reserves. Representation of the region was mostly in terms of continuation of socio-economic and political structures on the regional and international levels.
In consequence, global models have not treated the Arab region as a socio-economic and political entity. Further, the range of alternative futures available to the region as a result of restructuring socio-economic and political conditions, was not analyzed.
This, of course, can only be done in a truly regional model that starts from the region, allows for its specific features and incorporates the determinants of its future. There was an attempt to do exactly that a few years ago but it did not materialize. Currently, a similar effort is gaining momentum.
