Abstract
This chapter reviews the knowledge based expert systems (KBS) in material selection with emphasize on rule-based expert system for the selection of material. This chapter begins with expert system component fact and expert system architecture followed by benefits of knowledge based expert system. Several case studies on the application of KBS for optimum selection of materials have been addressed.
